Role
Kevin Stenlund is a 6'3", 213-pound center from Stockholm, drafted in the second round (58th overall) in 2015 by Columbus. He won a Stanley Cup with Florida in 2024. Utah re-signed him on July 1, 2026 to a one-year deal with a $2.75 million cap hit, per NHL.com.
Last season he had 4 goals and 14 assists in 80 games, won 54.2% of his faceoffs, and averaged 2:56 of shorthanded time, the most of any Mammoth forward. This year he has 2 assists in 7 games, one of them on Carcone's goal in the opener, with a shorthanded point and a 50% faceoff rate. He's averaging about 13:56, more than any other player we cover.
Outlook
Offense isn't the job. He had 14 goals and 14 assists in 2024-25, and 4 and 14 last year.
Our take: the team's 25th-ranked penalty kill (74.1%, ESPN) means the group needs more from Stenlund. One year at that price is a fair deal for a faceoff-and-PK center. Around 20 points is a normal year, and we'd rather judge him by how the kill does.
