Our take

Role

Kailer Yamamoto has played two of the Mammoth's first seven games, for 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) and a plus-3 rating on about 13:54 a night. He is a 5-foot-9, 178-pound depth forward. GM Bill Armstrong called him "a versatile forward that wins battles and can produce offense for us" when Utah re-signed him.

Outlook

Yamamoto signed a two-year, $3.5 million deal ($1.75 million a year) on June 29, per NHL.com. Last season he had 13 goals and 10 assists in 59 games, then 5 points in 6 playoff games. His 21.7 percent shooting was second on the team among players with at least 35 games.

Our take: that shooting rate will drop. Expect something like last year's 23 points, in and out of the lineup depending on who is hurt. He is a fine 13th forward.
