Role
Cossa is 23, 6'6", 221 pounds, and was the 15th pick in the 2021 draft by Detroit. Utah acquired him from Detroit on June 26 for a 2026 first-round pick and signed him to a two-year, $4 million contract ($2 million a year) on June 30, according to NHL.com.
Before this season he had one NHL game, a 6-5 shootout win over Buffalo on Dec. 9, 2024. In four AHL seasons at Grand Rapids he went 70-33-18 with a 2.46 GAA and a .911 save percentage. This year he has started both of his games, going 1-1 with a 3.16 GAA and a .852 save percentage.
Outlook
Our take: two games is too few to judge, and he will have rough nights early. The job right now is to give Vejmelka rest and show he can handle NHL shooters.
We'd guess 20 to 25 starts and a save percentage around .900 this season. If he gets close to that, he could push for more next year.
